Good bye 2013! Lately I have been obsessing over 50's cartoon character TOM TERRIFIC, hence the doodle, (this was drawn in BIRO then Photoshop'd to clean up the lineart). Nothing unusual about this, however I noticed that Tom is very similar to the lead character in Emile Cohl's Fantasmagorie (1908) animated film. Why not watch both and make your own mind up. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hello again, things have been pretty busy so I have not had much time to draw lately. However steady progress is afoot in the creation of my new mini-comic, the script has been drafted and spell checked, the layout has been roughed-out and all I have to do now is draw all the panels. Find to the left a sneaky-peek preview panel, I'm aiming at a minimalist style in 3 colour to make this achievable within the time frame.

A Day In The Life

What now seems like a short time ago I completed a project on the theme of "A Day In The Life . . .", after seeing a North Amercian Indian Blanket at the British Museum I decided to use the characters from the blanket as the theme. The end result was a series of line drawings that were then screenprint with a few spot colours. On the whole this turned out okay, however the story had nothing to do with real life on the plains.

Alien in Undergarments

I finished this painting a few weeks ago, if you had not guessed already it's of an alien in underpants. I think there is a kids book about it. I drafted up a couple of line drawings with felt-tip and acrylic paints, the 1st painting was a write-off so i started over and this was the end result. This painting was a private commission.

I am working on a bigger painting at the moment in a similar theme, it's an enlarged section from a mini comic that I'm working on, but more about that later.

In the meanwhile check out the rather lovely book "Hairshirt" by Patrick McEown.

Zombie Pete

Have you seen this strip before? I drew this a while ago with felt-tip pens and then coloured it in with Photoshop. I really like the angle of the line and the rough edge. I also like humour involving currency and zombies, the fact that character has an afro is not so important. Also not so important is the characters name, it just so happens that the name "Pete" sounds good with the word "Zombie".

This strip will eventually be included in my new compilation mini comic called "TANGENTS", along with this strip there will also be a accompanying strip explaining why the joke is funny, this will be in the best Sam "Magic Whistle" Henderson style possible.

Dinosaur Doodle Clean-up

As promised a cleaned up "I Can Draw Dinosaurs from Memory" doodle, Crayola pens then a clean up in Photoshop. I love the ease with which colour can be applied in Photoshop but the end product always ends up looking a bit stiff, oh well. I also like the "ghosting" or lack of finese around the edges of the shapes, it kind-of reminds me of when colour and the keyline is not quite in-line during the print process, which looks good when done well.

Happy New Year!

Sorry for the communication blackout, I've been really busy with real-life type work and have not had a great deal of time left for drawing. In fact I have done so little drawing that I've almost reached the stage where I cannot remember how to draw anymore!

My first post of the year is a cleaned up doodle, the date on the front of the sketch-book puts the doodle somewhere between 2011 and 2012. At the time I was going through a "I'm pretty sure I can draw Dinosaurs from memory" stage, images to follow. When I think of Dinosaurs I think of the Film Jurassic Park and Ray Harryhausen.
